All You Wanted To Know About Invisible Hearing Aids

If you have been advised that you require the help of a hearing aid to improve your hearing loss, sometimes this news can be met with some hesitancy. The major drawback of hearing aids is that people are uncomfortable with wearing a visible hearing aid. An ideal option is to consider invisible hearing aids.

Invisible Hearing Aids

A hearing aid can improve your hearing and speech comprehension if your hearing loss is either because of tinnitus or damage to hair cells (small sensory cells found within the inner ear). A hearing aid will amplify audio vibrations entering your ear. The surviving sensory cells will detect the stronger vibrations and convert them to signals, to be passed on to the brain.

Styles of Invisible Hearing Aids

Hearing aids can be divided into two types depending on what type of electronics is used: analogue and digital. Either one can be used in all types of audio aids. There are, however, different styles of aids.

  • BTE (Behind-The-Ear) - This type is not invisible as a small case made of hard plastic and is worn behind one’s ear. It is connected to an ear mould worn inside one’s outer ear. All the electronics are in the case. BTEs are used by those who have mild to severe hearing loss.
  • ITE (In-The-Ear) – This type of aids are used by those with mild to profound loss of hearing. The case that contains the electronics is small, made of plastic, and fits the inside area of the outer ear.
  • ITC (In-The-Canal) & CIC (Completely-In-Canal) – These two are also known as canal aids. ITCs are designed to fit the shape and size of one’s ear canal, while CICs are almost hidden in the ear canal. Both can be used for hearing loss that is mild to moderate. However, because of their small size, some people find them hard to wear and remove.

You can either visit a hearing center or head online and search for brands such as Oticon hearing aids, for example. You will be able to see the latest models and designs. Ask your audiologist to suggest an invisible hearing aid option best suited for your needs.
